Sammi Baer utilizes a systemic (Marriage and Family) approach which views the interconnectedness of individuals within their larger family, relationships, and social contexts. She is a versatile and compassionate about her work with couples, families, parent-child subsystems, siblings, children, young adults, and adults.
Her approach is client-led and she places importance on the therapeutic environment and is highly relationship based. She strives to provide an environment that is nonjudgmental, empowering, explorative, and enjoyable. She believes this environment to be important to foster and instill relational trust and safety, which lead to better therapeutic outcomes, and desired change.
Sammi is certified in level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy. She is drawn to and utilizes therapeutic interventions that align with a facet of therapy modalities such as internal family systems therapy (IFS), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused (TF-CBT), narrative therapy, psychobiological approaches to couple’s therapy, and Mindfulness.
She works with her clients to cultivate and nurture healthy relationships and she recognizes relationships have transformative potential in helping individuals and families navigate challenges and celebrate successes. She aims to intuitively guide her clients to develop effective communication skills, conflict resolution strategies, a strong inner compass, and trust in oneself.
Sammi recently graduated with her M.S. in Human Development & Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Colorado State University. She received her bachelor's degree in Family Social Sciences with a concentration in Family Therapy and a minor in Communication Studies, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Sammi is working under the supervision Dr. Stephen Harris LMFT and Stacia Hanson MA LP, while pursuing her licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
In her free time Sammi enjoys running, lake days, and coffee shops.
